Thursday, May 27: Away vs. Towamensing Twp.
Outlaws 8
Towamensing 4
In a well-played game by
both teams, the Outlaws came from behind to defeat the Towamensing
Yankees 8-4 in their season opener
The Outlaws were led by ace
Jon Mandile who pitched 5 innings while striking out 11. After
a shaky first inning in which the Yankees jumped out to a quick 3-0
lead, Mandile settled in and scattered 1 hit the rest of the way. He gave up
2
earned runs, 5 hits, and walked 1.
With the Outlaws down 3-0
entering the 4th, Dylan Denninger led off with a single to left.
Aaron Rushin followed with a towering 2-run homerun to cut the lead
to 3-2. Jake Hollweg followed with a single and promptly stole
2nd. However, the rains came and postponed the game for 20
minutes.
Following the rain delay,
Jon Mandile singled to score Hollweg and tie the score at 3-3.
Following outs by Jim Redington and Zack Gocek, Justin Slager
doubled to left-center to give the Outlaws the lead. Donnie
Pietrafesa followed with a single to score Slager and give the
Outlaws a 5-3 lead. Pietrafesa stole 2nd and scored on a
single by Dylan Transue.
The Outlaws would tack on 2
more runs in the top of the 5th to increase their lead to 8-3.
In the bottom of the 6th,
the Yankees would score off of reliever Jon Vaccola to close the gap
to 8-4. With the bases loaded and 2 out, Vaccola induced the
Yankees clean-up hitter to lineout to Chris Newhook in center to end
the game.
