Sunday, July 11:
Away vs. Franklin Township Hurricanes
Outlaws 5 Hurricanes 4
In what could be a championship
round preview, the Outlaws overcame a 4-0 deficit and defeated the
National League Regular Season Champion Franklin Hurricanes 5-4.
Jimmy Redington pitched
into the 7th inning to pick up the win and Jon Mandile survived a
bases loaded jam in the bottom of the 7th to seal the win for the
Outlaws.
After the first 3 innings,
the Outlaws had only managed 1 hit and trailed 4-0 but they began
their comeback in the top of the 4th. Jake Hollweg led off
with a double. After a walk to Dylan Denninger, Aaron Rushin
singled home Hollweg to cut the deficit to 4-1. After a walk
to Jon Mandile to load the bases, Redington singled to left to make
it 4-2. Even with none out and the bases loaded, the Outlaws
would only score 2 in the inning.
In the top of the 5th the
Outlaws tied the score thanks to an RBI double by Mandile and a wild
pitch which scored T.J. O'Connor who was running for Rushin.
With 1 out in the top of
the 7th, Hollweg would hit his 2nd double of the game and would
score on a double by Dylan Denninger to give the Outlaws their first
lead of the night at 5-4.
But the Hurricanes would
not go away quietly. After a lead-off single and a hit batter,
Redington was relieved for pitcher Mandile who promptly struck out
his first batter for one out. After a wild-pitch put runners
on 2nd and 3rd, the Outlaws intentionally walked the Hurricanes
clean-up hitter to load the bases. Mandile would strike out
the next 2 batters to save the game for the Outlaws.
The Outlaws finish the
season 16-2 and winners of 14 in a row. As the Regular Season
Champions of the American League, the Outlaws will have home field
advantage in the playoffs.
