Saturday, June 6: Away vs. Towamensing Twp.
Outlaws 3
Towamensing 1
In a well-played game by
both teams, the Outlaws came from behind yet again to defeat the
Towamensing Yankees 3-1.
The Outlaws were led by ace
Jon Mandile who pitched a complete game gem. He gave up 1
earned run, scattered 6 hits, struck out 6 and walked 1.
With the Outlaws down 1-0
entering the 6th, Donnie Pietrafesa reached base on a throwing error
by the shortstop. The ball got by the first baseman and went
out of play allowing Pietrafesa to reach 2nd. Pietrafesa
promptly stole third bringing up Justin Rodriguez.
Rodriguez grounded to the
shortstop while Pietrafesa raced for home. The ball
short-hopped the catcher and he couldn't hang on as Pietrafesa slid
in safely to tie the score at 1-1.
Rick Orengo, pinch-hitting
for pitcher Mandile, looped a single to center putting runners on
first and third. On the next play, Orengo broke for 2nd while
Rodriguez broke for home. On a close play at the plate
Rodriguez was called out.
With Orengo on 2nd, and now
2 outs following a Jim Redington strikeout, Scott Price lined a
clutch single to right allowing Orengo to score and a 2-1 Outlaws
lead.
Mandile continued to shut down
the Yankees and the Outlaws rewarded him with an insurance run in
the top of the 7th. Brian Archibald, who went 2-3 on the day,
led off the inning with a single. He would steal later 2nd.
Joe Abuiso followed with a bunt down the first base line. On a
close play at first, Abuiso was safe and with some confusion at
first, Archibald raced around to score for a 3-1 Outlaws lead.
Mandile would strikeout the
side in the bottom of the 7th for the complete game victory.
The Outlaws are now 5-1.
